increases substantially by around 12-15 kgs. This powder is not harmful to farmers using it or the silkworms on which this powder is dusted. The ratio of expenses to profits for farmers can be as high as 1:14.
Newcare
Newcare is an effecient anti-inflammatory bacterial fungicidal and viricidal, sporisidal agent for use in sericulture. 1L of Newcare has to be mixed with 55L of water which results in a 2% solution. This solution can be used for the sanitising of silk worm rearing houses, appliances, etc. Washin of hands with 500ppm solution can be done.
Formalin
The Formalin is sold in the markets under the brand ‘Santhosh’, 1 part of this high quality Santhosh Formalin must be mixed with 17 parts of water, then add 0.05% of detergent to the total Formalin solution. This results in 2% Formalin solution. This percentage is recommended for effective disinfection.
Bleaching Powder
The bleaching powder is sold in the markets under the brand name ‘Santhosh’, which has available Chlorine 34.5% +/- 1.5%. Bleaching powder is a white amorphous powder with a smell of chlorine. For effective disinfection, a high-grade bleaching powder with active chlorine content 30% must be used. The action of bleaching powder is optimal under wet and contact conditions and
therefore the surfaces of equipment and walls should be drenched with this solution. A 2% bleaching powder in 0.3% slaked lime
solution is used for disinfection as spray.
Hydrated Lime Powder
The Hydrated lime is sold in the markets under the brand name “Santhosh”, with available Hydrated lime of minimum 80% +/- 10%. Santhosh Hydrated lime is a very useful bed disinfectant in sericulture, especially against viruses. It absorbs moisture and can be used to regulate bed humidity and maintain hygiene. Application of lime dust in combination with bleaching powder in and around
rearing houses and premises improves hygiene in the environment.
